If you're looking to gamble, Atlantic City is your kind of place. There are plenty of opportunities to try your luck at craps, roulette, black jack, poker, keno, slots and a plethora of other games. Stroll through the elegant Taj Mahal with a suit and your swagger. Check out the House of Blues for some live music and poker. Settle into the Tropicana for 24 hour world-class gaming.
Although casinos are one of Atlantic City's main attractions; it wasn't always like this. America's oldest seaside city was once referred to as the "Queen of Resorts". It was the desired vacation spot because everything was right there along the Boardwalk: food, games, shopping, resorts and the beach. When the 1950's rolled around, air travel was publicly available; leaving Atlantic City somewhat of a ghost town. Families and tourists began flying to Florida, California, Hawaii and the Caribbean.
In order to boost the economy, long-forgotten luxury accommodations were turned into casinos, and Atlantic City became what it is known as today. Currently there are over 20 casinos within this Vegas of the Northeast, welcoming gamblers of all cards: black jacks, slot queens, poker kings and pai gow aces.
